+7.6% is the percentage of unavailable workers in Italy between July 2022 and 2023.📊 A recent analysis by Confartigianato has revealed that the proportion of unavailable workers out of the total projected hirings has increased by 7.6% over the past year, going from 40.3% in July 2022 to 47.9% in July 2023.➡ The report emphasizes how the Manufacturing shortage spreads across all sectors, from metal carpentry (with 70.5% of specialized technicians being hard to find) to plant management (56.6%), as well as other branches of the #hightech and #digital industry. In some cases, companies claim that candidates themselves are missing; for others, the problem is a lack of specialized skills or a mismatch with the job requirements.🔶 Taking action in the training of future employees is now more crucial than ever for safeguarding Made in Italy. Encouraging collaboration with technical and professional institutes as true promoters of #Manufacturing is a path already taken by small businesses, but perhaps not sufficient to tackle such a market demand. What Countries should Italy get inspired by? What would you invest in to reduce the percentage of unavailable workers in the Manufacturing sector? Tell us in the comments!#FutureManagerWorld #FMWItaly #FutureManagerManufacturing

"after spending more than two decades building a career at the factory, Mr Karaca, 49, a father of three, learnt that Continental planned to close the plant by 2027. Facing a daunting job hunt, he will head back to school to earn his trade certificate, courtesy of his employer....Continental is not alone in facing the challenges of Germany’s shifting industrial landscape, as manufacturing transforms to meet low-carbon goals, creating upheaval in the workforce. So in 2021, it joined 70 other firms – including Bayer, DHL, Infineon and Siemens – to form the Alliance for Opportunity, an initiative intended to help them hold on to the 2.7 million people in their collective workforce....German companies have a tradition of social responsibility, and leaders at Continental were keenly aware of the role the factory played in the community of 41,000, where it was the third-largest employer.'There were two possible options: Either you do it the classic way – and classic means a lot of loud strikes, trade union politics and the politicians getting involved,' said Dr Reinhart, who helped found Continental’s companywide training centre in 2019. 'Or you find a new way to do things.'...Beyond the in-house training, Continental took a further step to help its staff in Gifhorn, reaching out to other companies in the region looking for workers and offering to train its departing employees for new potential positions. For Stiebel Eltron, a producer of heat pumps that needs hundreds of workers as it seeks to expand, the offer proved fortuitous. The company signed a deal with Continental in 2023, agreeing to invest €65 million to take over parts of the existing factory and hire more than one-third of the Gifhorn employees. The state of Lower Saxony is investing an additional €5 million in the project, the exact terms of which were not released by either company.'We are giving 300 people a perspective, a future,' Dr Reinhart said. This week, Continental announced that the arms manufacturer Rheinmetall, which has been rapidly expanding to meet demand for more munitions for the war in Ukraine, agreed to take up to 100 workers for a factory less than an hour away – guaranteeing a future job for nearly half of the overall workforce in Gifhorn."Melissa Eddy, A German Initiative to Keep Workers Employed by Retraining Them—As the industrial landscape in Germany shifts, companies have formed an alliance aimed at offering the skills and certification that workers need to find new jobs, 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘠𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴, 10 May 2024, https://lnkd.in/ga9-jjWf, republished in the 13th May 2024 printed edition of 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴, page A20, https://lnkd.in/g6enCTCcOn 28 March 2022, 36 large companies employing more than 1.3 million people in Germany, decided to join forces in the Opportunity Alliance, according to Opportunity Alliance) as a way to prepare for transitions, mind RH, 28 April 2022, https://lnkd.in/gRRUdGHU

〆 There are concerns that workers from Japanese shipyards are moving to TSMC, leading to a shortage of workers in Japanese shipyards.〆 On the 24th, in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, the first factory of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) began operations.〆 With an equipment investment scale of 7 trillion yen, the treatment of the factory workers is expected to improve. The opening ceremony of the world's largest semiconductor foundry, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)'s first factory, was held on the 24th in Kikuyo Town, Kumamoto Prefecture. Locally, there is high anticipation for the equipment investment, which is pointed out to be on the scale of 7 trillion yen, including ripple effects. On the other hand, there are concerns that the concentration of labor at TSMC could lead to a shortage of workers in shipyards based in Kyushu and Shikoku. The total investment by TSMC in Kumamoto is estimated to be over $20 billion (more than 3 trillion yen).Last year, Japan's economic power was caught up by Germany, becoming the 4th largest in the world. The Japanese government is increasingly anxious.According to the Kyushu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, the equipment investment plans and location agreements of Kyushu companies accompanying TSMC's entry into Kumamoto total 74 cases, exceeding a total amount of 2.55 trillion yen.Local banks such as f*ckuoka Bank and Higo Bank have also prepared a system to meet the vigorous fund demand. The president of f*ckuoka Bank explained the aim at a press conference, saying, "We want to contribute to the economic growth of the entire Kyushu region."On the other hand, there are concerns that Japanese shipyards will face an acceleration in the shortage of workers. Even before the operation of TSMC's first factory, there were reports of shipyard workers moving from Imabari and Nagasaki to Kumamoto last year.It is also viewed that TSMC pays 2,000 yen per hour, compared to the average hourly wage of 1,000 yen in Japan.Currently, about 1,300 people are working at TSMC's first factory alone, and if the second factory starts operating, 3,400 people will work there. If workers from Japanese shipyards move to companies related to TSMC, it could further accelerate the shortage of workers in Japanese shipyards.■日本の造船所のワーカーもTSMCに流れ、日本の造船所のワーカー不足につながる懸念がある。 Photo= a Japanese domestic shipyard

21,000 workers face difficulties relocating oldest industrial park in VietnamDong Nai Rubber Enterprise, a subsidiary of Southern Vietnam Rubber Industry Corporation (Casumina), has been operating in Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park for over 20 years. The company has two workshops specializing in the production of light truck tires. Recently, Dong Nai province approved a plan to convert this industrial park into a riverside commercial and service urban area. According to the plan, the company must relocate by the end of next year.Workers at Dong Nai Rubber Enterprise during production hours on the afternoon of March 1. Photo: An PhuongMr. Pham Hong Phu, Director General of Casumina, said that one of the company’s workshops, which covers an area of 2 hectares and generates annual revenue of VND 600 billion, has to be relocated. “We are quite confused because the relocation deadline has been set, but the local government has not provided a clear support plan for businesses,” Mr. Phu said.According to Casumina’s management, the company is facing many difficulties in its relocation. Firstly, there are more than 200 workers currently employed, most of whom are elderly and have settled lives in Bien Hoa, making it difficult for them to move with the company to the new location. However, if they stay, they will have difficulty finding new jobs due to their age and the specific nature of the rubber industry. On the other hand, if the company cannot bring the labor force along, it will have to establish a new management system, which will take a lot of time to recruit and train new employees.Another challenge that the company has to face is the cost of relocation and constructing new workshops. According to Mr. Phu, when the factory was established in Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park, the company made long-term commitments by investing in machinery and equipment. After depreciation, with more than 20 years left on the land lease, the factory was expected to be profitable, but now it has to be relocated. The company needs to prepare billions of VND to build a new workshop in the new location. Currently, the rental price per square meter of land within a 50-year period in neighboring industrial parks is USD 190, excluding management fees. To invest in a new workshop, the company would need 10 hectares of land. Thus, the rental cost alone would be around USD 20 million, equivalent to VND 400 billion, and an additional VND 600 billion would be required for the installation of machinery, equipment, and fire prevention facilities.“The plan to convert the industrial park has been approved, and the company has to move out. The local authorities need to provide fair support measures,” Mr. Phu said.Biên Hòa 1 Industrial Park is located along the Dong Nai River. Scroll, 29-4-2023; Labour rights - Behind Gujarat’s beautiful fabrics, the invisible lives of boiler workersMostly Adivasi migrant workers who keep the factory boilers burning are compelled to work long, brutal hours and live in squalid condition.“Who will take care of our children?” Padma Damor asked, pointing to a gaggle of her toddler nephews and nieces playing with discarded pieces of plywood strewn outside her hut. “This way at least we can look after them during shifts too.”Damor, 33, was on her lunch break, in the middle of a 12-hour workday. She would hurriedly serve food to her husband, have some herself and return to the boiler room of the factory where she has been working for nearly three years. The factory, which also employs Damor’s husband and her four sisters and brothers-in-law, is one of over 2,000 small, medium and large textile and garment manufacturing plants in the Narol-Vatva industrial cluster in southeast Ahmedabad. It is a major node in India’s $152 billion textile and apparel industry, with production facilities for top foreign brands such as H&M, Ann Taylor, Wrangler, Chico’s, and Target.Damor’s task is carrying basketfuls of coal to the factory’s boiler, which generates steam and hot water for pre-processing, printing, dying, and, in the final stage, removing wrinkles from fabric. There are an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 boiler workers in the Narol-Vatva cluster, most of them Adivasis from Dahod and Panchamahal in Gujarat, Jhabua in Madhya Pradesh, and Dungarpur and Banswara in Rajasthan. Damor is from Jhabua. The factories, to save costs, run the boilers round the clock, since it takes around 12 hours to generate steam from a cold start and nearly as long to douse the fire. The workers, therefore, are compelled to clock in nearly 84 hours each week, far above the 48 hours mandated by the Factories Act of 1948.The work is back-breaking, as Scroll saw during a visit to several factories in February. The women unloaded coal from tractors into baskets, which they carried on their heads to the boiler room, where the men fed the fuel to the furnace. The workers did not have any safety gear. They walked barefoot on factory floors and fired the boilers by hand without gloves, goggles, or helmets. Temperature inside the boiler room went up to 45-50 degrees Celsius, yet there was hardly any ventilation, safety sensors or even drinking water available.READ MORE
